Harold Cherry, F.S.A., M.A.A.A

Harold Cherry was with New York Life for 33 years, retiring as vice president & actuary. Subsequently, he consulted for AXA Equitable for 19 years and was president of ASM for 23 years. Harold has been an ASM author for over 35 years. He also taught courses for the Actuarial Society of Greater New York for over 25 years.

David Farber, A.S.A., E.A., M.S.P.A

David Farber is an actuary (Associate of the Society of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary) and educator who focuses on education in the retirement plan area. He has taught review courses for students studying to pass the Enrolled Actuary exams since 1983, and numerous courses geared towards retirement administrators and consultants since the early 1980s. David has been an ASM author since 2001.

Rick Gorvett, F.C.A.S., A.S.A., M.A.A.A, CERA, ARM, FRM, Ph.D

Richard W. Gorvett is the staff actuary at the Casualty Actuarial Society. He is a thirty-year veteran of the insurance industry and a longtime member of the CAS with a background in both corporate and academic practice.

Prior to joining the CAS, Gorvett served as director of the actuarial science program at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a role he had held since 2004. Gorvett has been an active volunteer with the CAS for three decades, having earned his Associateship with the CAS in 1986 and his Fellowship in 1996. He recently completed a term on the CAS Board of Directors and currently serves as chair of the Academic Working Group of the CAS University Engagement Committee. He has also served as editor of Variance, the peer-reviewed journal of the CAS, since 2006, including as editor-in-chief since 2013.

Prior to his experiences in academia, Gorvett spent many years as a corporate and consulting actuary at companies such as Allstate, CNA, Tillinghast/Towers Perrin, Ernst & Young and Zurich North America. He is widely published in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at various conferences and seminars around the world.

Abraham Weishaus, Ph.D., F.S.A., CFA, M.A.A.A.

Abraham was formerly a financial reporting actuary for Guardian Life Insurance Company. He served on the SOA's Education and Examination Committee for 11 years. He also taught exam preparation courses for the Actuarial Society of Greater New York (ASNY) for 15 years and for CAMAR for 6 years. Abe is currently an adjunct professor at Columbia University and teaches exam preparation courses at St. Johns University. Abe has been an ASM author for more than 16 years and currently publishes materials for P, CAS S, MFE, MLC, and C.
